In the States, I’ve pretty much been successful staying away from fashion food most of the time. Fashion Food? You ask? Well, Fashion Food is food that may be good or may not be, but it looks real good. It is a piece of art on your plate. As opposed to some burger, an enchilada, a subway sub, or meat pie. For example, Lisa and I ate at a good Chinese (or novo-Chinese) restaurant called China Doll on the finger pier in Woolloomooloo. We had their 5 course Saturday banquet for $52 AUD each. The food was excellent.
Here is wear the Fashion Food piece comes back in, we’ve all have had your normal fired calamari with a marina sauce in the States at an Italian restaurant. Here at China Doll, is has been fashion-ized into a very good Chili Calamari (see exhibit A). In exhibit B, you have the trio of sherbets (coconut, strawberry and kiwi) :
To show some contrast between the Fashion Food, and normal food, here is a snap of some filets and shrimp being cooked on our new Weber barbie:
I might be taking a stretch or taking liberties here, but I think Alexandra and Eric towards the end of their visit a couple of weeks ago were getting tired of fashion food which led to the eventual appearance of Subway sandwiches at our place.
Nonetheless, good food is good food, and after eating at China Doll, Lisa and I needed a long walk and we took across Hyde Park towards the CBD for some shopping and then home.
Here is a picture of Lisa after I told her I wanted to have a television in our place! Just kidding. Lisa Doesn’t have blond hair. This is a mannequin from the Haymarket. Would you buy off the rack?
Lisa says the "fashion food" photos above aren\’t real good examples, so I\’ll have to keep an eye out for some better ones.
