I’m beginning to think Lisa has a dining out plan. She has a book from the food guy at the Sydney Morning Herald and we refer to it when we are thinking about trying a new restaurant. So far, it has been on target. On closer examination, this food critic also employs a number of hats to the very best of these restaurants. I think the scale is 0 through 3 hats. So I think Lisa now has the goal to eat at every hat rated restaurant listed. Today, we drove up to the northern beaches and more specifically, Whale Beach.
Jonah’s
Jonah’s Restaurant and Retreat has been around since the 1920s and is located on the Northern Beaches peninsula. It is suppose to be about 45 minutes away from the CBD, bit that might have been in the 1990s because now it takes over and hour. You can also take a helicopter from Sydney for $349 AUD per person. I’m trying to talk Lisa into relocating in the Northern beaches area when our current lease runs it course. She is not too keen on long commutes though.
Jonah’s is a one hat Restaurant. Which is a lot better than a zero hat restaurant, and even more better than a not even listed in the book restaurant (Unless the restaurant opened after the book). The first thing you realize about Jonah’s is that it has a heck of a view, perched on high cliffs overlooking Whale Beach.
In the snap on the left, a group is having some type of baby christening outside before coming back in to dine. It should be noted that if you are standing with a group on a cliff on a windy day wearing a skirt, it is best to keep your hands on it if you don’t want to flash your niece or grandfather. In the second photo you can see one of the tables and much more importantly the view.
The second thing you notice during Sunday lunch dining is that shorts are a little underdressed, so I slipped in the Men’s room and swapped mine for some Dockers I was carrying in my day pack. The third thing you notices is that you will be having a great meal with your view…or having a great view with your meal…oh heck, both.
The view on the restaurant back terrace.

Itt
On a windy day, you never know when all the sudden your best girl is abducted and replaced with Cousin Itt from The Adams Family:
This is only the 4th post I have read thus far (give me time) but I like this one the best so far…
