As they say, only “mad dogs and English men” go out in the hot noon day sun. Well, Lisa and I were feeling a bit English and went to this temple in the peak of the heat. On the bad side, its very hot, but on the good side many of the tourist and especially the buses seem to all go to lunch from noon until 2pm. But the other bad side is that light is pretty crappy for taking photographs. Regardless, Lisa liked this temple best because of its color.
It was built 3rd quarter of the 12th century for those of you who are keeping track of such things. Here are some snaps with captions:
The causeway leading up to Banteay Samre. The stone tails and the heads of most of these guardians had been desecrated.
You know…if one of the stones from the ceiling were to fall, it pretty much make for a very bad day for the person it fell upon. I must be pretty neat to be in these buildings when it is raining and the water is running down walls and dripping from the ceilings.
I guess you might call these “window treatments,” stone window treatments. Nice design and all hand carved on a stone lathe.
Main tower. It would be surrounded by water part of the year.
Man, woman, water equal blessing.
Feet of a statue that was stolen long ago.
