For the kind readers in the States, that would be Wednesday. I know Lisa and I must have some upscale neighbors from the looks of some of the cars in our underground parking area:
I personally dig the Cadillac and the Lamborghini the most. Of course there are a bunch of Hondas, Toyotas and BMWs as well, but if I’m going to impress, I gotta snap pix of the high dollar stuff.
The Neighborhood
Living on a private pier is very quiet. I think a small percentage of residents might just use their places on weekends, holidays and date nights. Date Nights! Yes, according to Lisa, every Thursday is date night or shopping night, whichever vice calls out to you. Of course, sailing your boat on Thursday night is an acceptable vice as well. Lisa may have told me this as a clever ploy to get me to take her out on the town every Thursday night…as opposed to every other night we go out for dinner.
Anyways, this is the east side of our apartment. Unfortunately, our place didn’t come with a luxo’-yacht or even a sail boat. Maybe I can find a rental.
The pier across from our place hosts Sydney Dance Theatre rehearsal facilities, a number of free dance classes that range from beginner to advance, and also the city theatre annex for live public performances.
Underwater Parking
I forgot to mention that our place has underwater parking, so all the high dollar cars the picture before could be turned into instance submarines if something bad were to happen. And don’t think bad things don’t happen. When I was in my late teens growing up in the suburb of Orlando, Winter Pack, a sink hole opened up and swallowed a Porsche Auto repair place including about 5 or 6 Porsches. I think they retrieved all of them through the use of a crane.
This is the backside of our residential complex. It faces a bunch of offices on the water. Nothing too cool, but it is interesting how they converted these spaces from old wharfs to modern buildings.
For a few dollars less.
You or I could live on the land part of the pier. I think they market it as land’s edge or water’s edge. Here is a snap:
So where exactly are these piers, you ask? Here is a map-a-roo (been drinking a bit of red wine).
In this map, Lisa and I live off of Hickson Road. Pier 6 & 7 to be more exact. Directly to the east is another pier mentioned earlier, the Sydney Dance Theatre folks, and then another which is a hotel and then there is the world famous Sydney Bridge that links Sydney Central Business District (CBD) and North Sydney. Lisa and her youngest daughter, Ashleigh, have climbed the bridge. I believe there is a charge for the guided tour of about $175 AUD. I haven’t done it, but might next week when I go into full tourist mode when Lisa’s oldest daughter Alexandra and her husband Eric are in town.
They don’t create anymore waterfront, unless you live in Dubai. Below is a snap of a future development site down the road from us towards Darling Harbor. As with most large cities, housing can be tough. I think the city does try to nudge developers into supplying some affordable housing along with the million dollar plus options that they really want to build.
It is getting late, so I’m going to turn in and add a bit more tomorrow. Sleep well.
Thanks for news, and I appreciate knowng the location etc. of the apartment as well as the time Alex & Eric will be visiting. I knew they would be visiting but had no idea when. Your writing is very informative and interesting.Nonnie
Great story and pics! Closest I ever came to Australia was going to see a crocodile dundee impersonator in downtown Flower Mound… well that, and those Outback Steakhouse commercials…
